A local group based in Aberystwyth called the Starlings are one of the five finalists in Wales for the Peoples Project 2019.

Their bid is called Wheel together and it is to create an inclusive community cycling club by using the money to buy bikes suitable for non-able bodied riders and able bodied alike. They hope to get three wheeler trikes, hand bikes, tandems, and ordinary push bikes that can be rented out to anyone in the community. They will also create opportunities for people to learn how to maintain bikes and to establish community bike rides . As adaptive bikes are so expensive to buy and take up a lot of storage space, it isn’t often possible for people to buy their own, but this would allow them to hire them for as long or as short a time as they wanted.
Laureen Pope, an Exercise Referal Instructor from the group came onton the weekend breakfast show to tell us more about it.
